The...the guy that's staying with Dio? [ Yes, Sam does know Jonathan Joestar. They've had more than...awkward first meeting, thanks to Dio, but there you go.

Sam doesn't lift his head, instead huddling just a little closer. So he isn't hunched over so much. ]

Mmhmm. He's the one who healed my injuries. He could probably have made them not scar too, but I decided I wanted to keep the scars.

[ That's probably a bad thing to tell Sam, but he's not thinking about it, just thinking about the healing abilities. ]

He was really helpful to me anyway. I'm not sure who has healing abilities other than those two, but it might be good to keep track of who can and talk to them about your problems, let them know you might need them to come help someone sometime? And warn people you're with ahead of time, maybe?

[ He pauses. ]

I mean, it is like being sick, kind of. You might cause someone else harm, but it's not because you're trying. So all you can do is take precautions, warn people, give them the choice about it.

[ At least for the moment, Sam is too preoccupied with his own insecurities to pay too much attention to the scar bit. Especially when faced with Mikado's solution. He clutches tighter at the other, forehead pressing against the other's neck. ]

I just want to be normal again.

I know.

[ Mikado continues to pet Sam softly, trying to think of what to even say. This is hard for him, because he knows there's nothing he can do. ]

I'm sorry I can't make that happen, Sam. You're just going to have to do your best with things the way they are.

Mmn... [ It's a sound of understanding, but not one of relief, happiness, or much hope honestly. Sam even deflates a little, but he never once retreats from the embrace Mikado offers. So long as it's there he's going to seek as much of those gentle touches and comforts as Mikado will gives him.

He needs them right now. ]

[ Mikado really doesn't know what to say at all. Here he's burdened Sam with his own stuff when the boy was already upset, just trying to explain something. And not really gotten to what he wanted to say, but he can't exactly do it now. That'll have to wait for some other time, if ever.

For now, he can't fix Sam's problem, and everything he can think of to say about it is pretty much more useless platitudes. Is it always going to be like this? He knows that Izaya is working on whatever Sam's problem is, but that's not particularly reassuring. He wishes he could do something about that too, but he knows better than to start some kind of fight against Izaya: there's no way he'd win, and Sam as the battleground would suffer far too much. ]

I'm right here.

[ He wants to say "I'm sorry" again, or offer words of love - but that would ultimately hurt them both - but instead all he does it tell Sam he's here. And show him, with more of those gentle touches, far more platonic and nurturing than what he'd planned on doing. He doesn't try to shift the tone at all, though a kiss pressed against Sam's head now and then only seems natural. ]

You promise? [ His words are scarcely above a whisper, but it's the most strength he's managed to muster so far. Of course he knows Mikado there, it's impossible not to with the embrace they're sharing. But what he really means by it is if Mikado will stay that way: five minutes from now, ten minutes--a week, maybe even five, or even after that. Even if his powers do become a problem.

Because this is the sort of thing he doesn't do with just anyone. Everyone else in Between is older, seems so much more adjusted to how crazy things are. No one seems to miss their homes, or if they do they never talk about it. No one talks about feeling lonely or sad or homesick or what scares and frightens them. It feels like sometimes he's the only one that wakes up crying some nights, missing his family and clinging to Rayflo if the vampire's around. He's the only one who still can't get used to the idea of having sex to survive even after four months of it.

He just has to put on a brave face and try not to seem...childish. Young. Weak. But with Rayflo and Mikado, that need isn't present so much. It feels a little less like he has to try that much harder. That he can let go some of his burden and seek the comfort and support he craves in moments like these. ]

[ Mikado doesn't say anything for a second, because promises are a serious thing to him. Maybe it's because he's young too, or maybe it's because he does tell so many lies, of various kinds. Whatever it is, the whole reason he's hesitated with Sam is that he doesn't want to make promises he can't keep. ]

I promise.

[ He's decided. Not about all the other stuff, but being here for Sam doesn't have to be any specific thing. Just being here, and that he's sure of. ]

I'm not going to just stop caring about you or being here for you, no matter what happens.

[ The hand stroking Sam's hair moves down his back, rubbing at it with a slow steady pressure. ]

You don't have to worry about me disappearing.

[ It's everything he wants--needs--to hear and more right now. Mikado will find himself abruptly clung to all the more tightly for several seconds, but to Sam's credit he doesn't start crying again. He might shudder or sniff once or twice, but he manages to maintain his composure even as his face grows hot from emotion against the other's neck. ]

I like you. [ Sam whispers it out, but he knows Mikado will be able to hear it anyway. His hands ball into tiny fists in the other's shirt. ] I really, really like you.

[ It hurts. It hurts a lot. Because Sonohara-san is in this world now, and he still hasn't figured things out with her, and there are so many things he needs to deal with. But here's Sam, so easily talking about his feelings, despite everything. ]

I know. I like you too.

[ He tries to make the words sound less heavy than they are, and they come out very soft... but also a little sad. ]

We have plenty of time.

[ It's neither the place nor the time probably, but that's just the way Sam is: words come to mind and he blurts them out, nodding even though it feels like his heart is going a mile a minute. ]

I really like you...

[ He mumbles it one more time, this time his own voice embarrassed and small, his face steadily darkening. Especially when Mikado returns his words despite the tone that comes with them. ]

Can you look up at me?

[ Mikado asks the question gently, and rubs at the back of Sam's neck as he speaks. ]

[ It sends nervous goosebumps down his spine simply because Mikado is touching that area again. But he does manage to nod all the same, swallowing as he very slowly shifts backward and lifts his head, face a fine cherry hue.

It'll take some effort to actually lift his gaze to Mikado's face, but when he manages it he can feel his heart starting to race all over again. ]

[ Mikado's hand drifts off Sam's neck as soon as his friend looks up, to rest against his back instead.

Then he leans in and gently presses kisses against Sam's forehead, his cheeks, even the end of his nose. ]

[ He's going to make Sam burn up at this rate. That's what it feels like, as each of those sweet and tender kisses pepper his skin until he's certain not an inch of him isn't radiating warmth. By now it feels like his heart's hammering away loudly inside his chest uncontrollably, because all he wants to do is tilt his lips a little, chase those soft lips--and plant his own right on top of them. ]

[ Sorry Sam, if you want that, you'll have to do it yourself. Mikado is just trying to convey his affection any way he can think, without pushing things in a certain direction. As a result, his kisses are aimless, soft, gentle... and everywhere but Sam's mouth.

He even skips right over it and plants one on his chin. ]

[ Well, if it's up to him then he's going for it. Mikado skipping his lips for his chin is the final straw of his self-restraint. He wants to feels those lips on his so bad...so when the brunet next pulls away Sam chases him, hastily catchign the other's mouth in a too-eager kiss. ]

[ For a second, Mikado's lips press together tightly at the contact, mostly because he's trying to hold back a sudden laugh. He hadn't really been intending to tease so much as be affectionate in a relatively chaste manner, but the eagerness with which Sam kisses him is adorable as well as flattering.

He shifts his grip on Sam carefully, trying to support him without hitting his weirdness about his neck, which leads to having one hand on the back of his head and the other between his shoulder blades.

Then he parts his lips to the kiss, happily. ]

[ He couldn't help it. Mikado's right there, and after everything and all the trouble he's caused...

When the other's lips part Sam leans in further and actually tries to lead a little and take the initiative, sliding his tongue along the other's lower lip to test the waters before he tries pressing it against Mikado's. Usually he's on the receiving end of this act, or at least following along; but if Mikado will let him then, well. ]

[ Mikado has no problem letting Sam take the lead in the kiss. Sam isn't, after all, one of the people that Mikado has to do some kind of power play with; he's Sam. So Mikado relaxes into the kiss and lets the tongue in, moves his own very gently against it, making it clear he's not trying to take over.

His hand pets over the back of Sam's head a little again too, in a move that will hopefully come off encouraging rather than condescending. ]

[ It's true he lacks the competitiveness and need for dominance that many people in Between have. Sam's constantly being strung around by those types, always struggling to find his footing and match up to them. Being able to actually lead to some degree without challenge or ridicule is kind of...nice. Especially so since it's Mikado.

Sam will become increasingly confident in small increments, though he stills takes the receptive sort of role to tilt his head for a better angle. ]

[ Mikado remains completely receptive, though that issue of being the one to fix the angle hasn't occurred to him at all, one way or the other. He's not sure he's really good at kissing this way, as much as he likes it. It seems to take more reminding himself of what he's doing, being careful of reacting without pushing, and his cheeks heat a little with self-consciousness in a way they wouldn't with almost any other partner.

He finds himself shifting slightly, moving his legs under him to be more stable as if that will help somehow. ]

[ In response Sam will shift a bit too, but more so that he can press closer and rise up on his knees a little. And of course following that he allows himself to become a little more enthused about the kiss, deepening it and turning his grip from one of desperation to more of a wanton sort of embrace, holding the other close as he pants softly through his nose. ]

[ This is so not what he intended, at all. Not what he expected coming here, even with his flippant comment about touching. He doesn't protest the kiss being deepened, and tries his best to keep up with breathing and kissing and not being overwhelmed by the nearness of Sam, by the desperation he himself feels that he's trying to hold back.

It's not about sex, that desperation, but it's easy enough for it to be channeled that way too, for him to let all the nervousness and confusion he's been feeling about well, feelings, as desire. He's letting Sam have his moment though, he reminds himself, Sam is the one who needs comforting and taking care of, and...

And Mikado pushes forward into the kiss more aggressively, suddenly. ]

Mmn...! [ The sound Sam makes in response is surprised yes, but in a delighted sort of way. His hands curl in the other's shirt as he surrenders immediately, barely even putting up a fight; not when it comes from Mikado. If it were Dio or Izaya maybe, but not his Angel. And especially not when he'd wanted some sort of confirmation and validation that Mikado wanted it as much as him.

This just makes his body flush with relief and want, holding as close as the older teen will let him. ]
